# Category

> Group your items, like gold jewellery and silver jewellery, so stock and reports stay organised.

A category is a group of similar items. For example, **Gold Jewellery** holds chains, rings and bangles, and **Silver Jewellery** holds kolusu and pooja articles.

**Menu:** Stock → Inventory → Category

## Add a category

#### Click Add Category

#### Fill the details

* **Category Name** (required), for example *Gold Bangles*
* **Print Name** (required), the name printed on bills
* **Code**, a short code like *GB*
* **Metal** (required): *Gold* or *Silver*
* **Stock Ledger Mapping**, for example *Gold Ornaments*
* **Is Parent Category**: keep this ticked if items will be added under it
* **Min Order Qty** and **Description** (optional)

#### Click Save

> **Items can only be added under a parent category.** If a category doesn't appear when you add an item, edit it and tick **Is Parent Category**.

> A simple setup for a Tamil Nadu shop: *Gold Chains*, *Gold Bangles*, *Gold Rings*, *Gold Earrings (Kammal/Jimikki)*, *Silver Kolusu*, *Silver Pooja Items*.
