# Change GST %

> Change the GST rate for new items, for one item, and check it on a bill.

Change the GST rate for new items, for one item, and check it on a bill.

## 1. Shop-wide default for new items

#### Open Item Setting

Go to **Settings → Item Setting**.

#### Change Default GST %

Under **Defaults**, change **Default GST %**. It is **3%** by default. The screen says this is the GST percentage pre-selected for new items.

#### Save

Click **Save changes**.

> **Note**
>
> This changes the starting GST for new items. Items you already created keep their own GST %. Change those one by one.

## 2. For one item

#### Open the item

Go to **Stock → Inventory → Items** and edit the item.

#### Change GST %

Pick the new **GST %**. It can be any rate, including 0%.

#### Save

Click **Save Item**.

## 3. On a bill

Each bill line takes the item's GST %. An item at 0% stays 0%. You can also change **GST %** on a single bill line, from 0% to 28%. A new empty line starts at 0% until you pick the item. Check the CGST and SGST in the **Sales Summary** before saving.
